Bobby Orr- The Legend of Parry
Sound

Bobby
Orr is among the rare talents in the NHL that reached
near mythical status of fame. What’s even more remarkable, is
that he reached
this level of reverence not only after retirement, when he was in the
autumn of
his year as an agent, but also while he was still playing in the NHL.
Among defencemen
, the very name “Orr” is known as the gold standard
of the position; What grit and
determination are all about.
The numbers can speak for themselves
when it comes to Bobby
Orr; Two Stanley Cups, 8 Norris Trophy Awards for best league
defenceman, three
Hart Memorial Trophies for league MVP, two Art Ross Awards as leading
scorer
(the only defenceman to ever accomplish the feat), 1976 Canada Cup MVP,
915
points in 657 games.
But beyond the numbers is the style
of play that Orr
established in the NHL. His was a flourishing, smooth skating defencive
style,
that also was punctuated by a merciless mean streak. If Bobby Orr ever
took a
shift lightly in the NHL, there’s certainly no proof of it.
The Hockey News
ranked him as the second Best Hockey Player of all-time, just behind Wayne
Gretzky, but ahead of Gordie
Howe. The debate will rage forever whether there
ever was a more significant hockey player to wear a pair of skates in
the NHL,
but for Boston Bruin fans, there certainly is no doubting the legend
that is
Bobby Orr.
